If you feel "abandoned" because some scholars of fascism are moving to Canada, may I suggest developing and cultivating strong community bonds?
Because if you're feeling well held-down by your community, some random author leaving the US is not a thing that should be upsetting you. You know?
May 15, 2025 06:49I think it has more symbolic value. Like when the bomb diffusing guy suddenly jumps up and starts running and you know things got real.
I agree with the symbolic value. It's like "welp, writing is definitely on the wall"
But there are people who are REALLY upset by this, and I believe that's a sign that those people have *only* symbols to hang onto right now.
Being in community means we have more than just symbols to occupy us.
My community is the only thing helping me keep it together most days tbh
“Oh no, but I thought you were going to personally prevent the rise of fascism because you teach classes and write books on it. Why are you leaving us??”
Bro, they’re leaving because they can. Does that bug you? Good.
Fascism is capitalism when times get tough.
