It is bad to insult people for looking how they want to look.
Even if it wasn't, how is "has bad makeup" worse than "fucking dog killer?"

Get creative. You can be meaner & less forgiving to your enemies, without targeting their physical appearance.
Not only is it lazy to attack physical characteristics, it’s often bigoted and it reveals what you hold important by the act. So attack them where it counts, like their actions.

wait so we can't insult a woman based on her choice to have cosmetic surgery or choice in makeup to look more like a white supremacist ideal the same way we insult men for choices they make? ok misogynist

There's nuance here though. Noem's appearance is a direct consequence of her political beliefs, which are definitely not above critique. Looking at smaller, seemingly inconsequential things members of an ideological group do can illuminate more profound things about them.

Let’s not let the same, cheap and ungrounded Go Girl feminism that sent Katy Parry to space prevent us from critically discussing modern American fascist aesthetics. The hair, makeup and surgeries of anti-trans, hyper-gendered right-wingers, both male and female, are an integral part of this system.

I understand the intent here, but MAGA's got a specific look that is very much in-group signaling. Yes, women feel pressured to look a particular way, but her look is absolutely about fitting a particular MAGA style.

There's a certain kind of person who you see pop up now and again who's main defining feature is being sanctimonious about the dumbest shit imaginable.

"Don't make fun of someone's looks" is supposed to be about things they didn't choose and can't easily change. Poor folks with limited options, fat people, short people, people with visible birth marks, etc etc. Rich people choosing bad plastic surgery and makeup is not the same.

idk all of those are things she is willingly choosing to do to her body and face in order to align further with the right-wing's hypersexualized ideal and further her own career so. i think it might be fine

The problem with Noem's makeup & cosmetic procedures is not Noem, is the thing. She's a terrible person who is staking her name on her eagerness to abuse, but she didn't invent the Mar-a-Lago look, & she didn't adopt it idly. The look is a visible marker of what women are to conservatives.

unfortunately, kristi noem's face is a direct reflection of her white supremacist beliefs. the same is true for her entire class of aspiring nazis. laura loomer, kristi noem, matt gaetz -- they are all a direct reflection of their politics.

This administration is entirely about the aesthetics of power though. Noem’s appearance is fair game because she looks that way to play a role.

I think there's a very meaningful conversation to be had about the surgical homogenization of MAGA women's appearances to suit one man's aesthetic preferences, and what that says about patriarchal bargains under fascistic misogyny.
AND "haha, filler" is not that conversation
