I've started being really explicit about what assignments are for. You're not writing a lab report because I like reading them, this is *practice* for writing an *original research paper*.
And using analogies like, You don't get good at football by playing a console game, you have to run drills.
"Any job you get with this degree will require you to communicate what someone is paying you for and/or why they should give you money to work on your idea. You won't have time for ChatGPT if you're in an elevator with your boss or a potential investor. Gotta train your brain."
