- This is the Groove-billed Ani (Crotophaga sulcirostris), and it's just straight up a dinosaur. Like, I know *all* birds are technically avian dinosaurs, but my first thought looking at this guy is: dinosaur. (📷: Suzie McCann, eBird)

View full threadThe genus name Crotophaga means "tick-eating" because they will hop among cattle eating ticks & other small insects from the ground. They're not graceful fliers, preferring to make short hops from shrub to shrub. Muscular legs help with launch to flight. (📷: Charles J. Sharp, Wikimedia)
- They have IUCN status of 'least concern' & seem to thrive in agricultural areas where fields offer lots of bug hunting opportunities. Just a dinosaur next door. You can read more about them at eBird.

- Be sure to zoom in and really drink deep of the majesty of the purple frog (Nasikabatrachus sahyadrensis), also called the pignose frog. They're native to southern India & have some really unusual adaptations to their life cycle. I promise their bizarre shape will make sense. (📷: Karthickbala)
- TIL: The reason I have so much grey hair is that my melanocyte stem cells (McSCs) have GIVEN UP. They're supposed to go back to the 'germ compartment' where they can be renewed into pigment cells. Instead, they just sit there & stop making pigment. I get it, melanocyte stem cells. I get it.
- Old MacDonald had a farm... on the MOON! 🧑🌾🌕 Let's talk about the brief period of LUNAR agriculture & animal husbandry that happened in 2019. The Chinese Chang'e-4 lander touched down on the far side of the Moon on January 3rd, 2019.
