On this day in 1975, Canada made the change from Fahrenheit to Celsius.
This was just one part of a decade-long process for Canada to convert to the metric system. It was a huge undertaking.

As the joke goes: how big is a metric sheet of plywood? 4’ x 8’ It is also impossible to buy steel sheet or rolled sections or bar in metric sizes in Canada - it is all produced in imperial dimensions. Given our proximity to the US, Cdn metrication was always going to be half-assed & it still is.
But as we move away from trade with the US and do more business globally, I think the metric system was the right thing to do.
