I am traveling today and happen to be wearing a jacket with the logo of the health system I work for. Three people at the airport have wished me "happy nurses' day".
I've replied, "Thank you, nurses are awesome, and I'm a doctor."😊

This happens often to me and other women, even in the hospital setting. I've been mistaken for every other role - janitor, catering, social worker, nursing, but the assumption is never doctor.🤷🏽♀️
One of my doctors has an extra badge stuck to her system ID on her lanyard that says DOCTOR. She confirmed it was because people kept assuming she is a nurse.
And my Black husband is a nurse 🥰

To be honest, I wasn't offended it was just striking that 3 people made exactly the same assumption. I am glad people are aware of nurses' day and were eager to celebrate that 😊. I couldn't do my job without nurses who indeed are amazing.

I prefer nurses to doctors, and my FPN is a Black woman. I’m 78, and in my experiences with doctors? They don’t listen - even women who are doctors. I can see that you need to remind people to check their biases, but I read this as another example of a doctor being arrogant about being a doctor.
