- the strangest common idea on the left is that you can make more money by buying real estate and leaving it empty than by renting it out
- I wonder how much of this is due to the fact that _commercial_ landlords often do hold units vacant for years. You have to be pretty deep into the weeds to understand how different the legal and tax situations are from residential, but the eyesore empty storefronts are hard to miss.
