- The issue with the mac build was due to the custom build I was using. The only reason I was using a custom build was because the devs removed the rotation_degrees property and all of my animations used it, so I had to create a custom build where that property was still available

View full threadI still don't fully understand why they removed the rotation_degrees property from the editor. They said it was because we using radians was fine, but then they gave into demands asking for degrees to be supported again-
- This was done via automatic conversation in the interface, but in the code you could still directly set the rotation_degrees property? It made no sense, and I often feel the programmers on these open source projects just force their opinion on others because they think they know best
- Eventually I figured I'd try and do something about it. I decided to ask chatGPT if it could write a python script to fix my files. I showed it the format and explained what I needed. Thankfully I only needed to tweak it once and it did the job, completely fixing my issue
- So now I'm finally able to use the regular builds without any weird custom modifications, which makes my life a lot less stressful when it comes to releasing new builds of the game
- Unfortunately the 3.x to 4.x convertor didn't take into account the rotation_degrees animation tracks. The devs had removed the property, and now the only publicly available rotation property was one called "rotation" but this was technically in radians, but via the editor it was in degrees
- So my animation tracks were in degrees, but the editor wanted radians, even though it appeard to accept degrees, but not via the animation tracks (it's messy, and stupid, and unnecessary)

- Pretty much, I basically apply a dithered pattern to the areas that are in shadow. It used to be a lot more complicated, thankfully an engine upgrade avoided that!

- My favourite thing about doing an update for Ex-Zodiac is finding out the mac build doesn't work and having no idea why. I completely understand why other games don't bother 😬

- Yeah, Godot. It's fine if you use the official build templates, you just export your game with a click and it's good to go. However, I had to build my own export templates as I needed to include Steam

- It's getting harder and harder to come up with interesting & fun bosses for my game. It's like I've exhausted the possibilities, which I obviously haven't, but it often feels like it. Also a lot of times an idea seems great in my head, but just doesn't work out in reality. That always sucks.
- I tend to talk myself out of writing posts like this, as I don't want people to worry about the development of the game, but I need to shout into the void sometimes.

- Hmm yeah makes sense. I think with the original DOOM it was probably still the right choice since it probably helped spread the game so widely, setting the series up for success, but it's hard to say what would have happened had they gone a different route
