- I've been working on a network-local ATProtocol dev environment that gives me end-to-end production functionality for Smoke Signal, including handle resolution and repository access. Here’s how I put it together. 🧵

- I was wrong in my read on things; the new relays are pulling the entire network. Definitely a different experiment at that point. Mea culpa on misrepresenting.

- introducing atcute, a collection of lightweight TypeScript packages for AT Protocol API client, OAuth client, utility packages for various data formats, Bluesky-specific utility packages for rich text and posting they're all covered!

- i hope this major update makes building on atproto even more useful. i started atcute because i found atproto's own reference packages to be limiting for third-parties building on it took a little too long to get here, but it's definitely here now 🙂
- heyo, just published a major update to atcute, there's now schema validations! took like what, 8 months, to get here? but the final result is amazing
- from the code above, you'd only need 4.5 kb minzipped just to validate a bluesky post record, vs. 137 kb when using @atproto/api it's a massive deal for SPAs 😋
- Smoke Signal is now officially open source! It’s an event and RSVP management and discovery app built on ATProtocol. I chose the MIT license because it keeps things simple and open. No gatekeeping, no restrictions—just build, share, and remix freely.

- my monitoring system hasn't pinged me about service downtime in almost a year, and that probably means the monitoring is broken but I'm choosing to believe that I'm just that good at sysadmin
- oh you thought it was decentralized? you fool. I've already deployed new goalposts at every point of the star topology

View full threadas others have mentioned, i’m increasingly convinced using this word is stupid and if not using the word keeps some small group of apub folks from ever using atproto meaningfully, oh well.
- ive been wanting to write this story about how the meaning of decentralisation has evolved over time within the fediverse and atmosphere, and have spend quite some time on a draft already. but doing it justice to explain why it all got so confusing and kinda stupid is just so much work lol
