- “Acceleration” has become increasingly prevalent in discourse on climate mitigation. What does it mean? It often means "step up" climate action in the short term, which is overly simple. Acceleration must end, which requires thinking about policies over time. journals.plos.org/climate/arti... 1/

- Almost everywhere you look - soil, oceans, forests, stoves, other tech - the carbon credits market is fatally compromised by junk science, over-claiming and imperatives of profit. The "market" (a term used as code for financialisation and economic power) is not going to solve our existential crisis.
- @altagliabue.bsky.social making a presentation at @ucl.ac.uk telling us that ocean iron fertilization won’t do jack for climate and will further harm fisheries. Yet, it’s the marine CO₂ removal (mCDR) method that has sold the most credits so far. 🤷🏻♂️

- Whenever you hear conservative politicians preach from the gospel of "fiscal responsibility," remember that one of the biggest drivers of deficits lately are the Bush and Trump tax cuts, which have added nearly $10 trillion to the national debt.

- Sort of feel like the New York Times is valorizing flight here Everyone has the right to make their own decision on this—but I'm not sure that fleeing the United States deserves a special uncritical spotlight Maybe a daily spotlight instead on those of us who are staying to try to save our country
- Republicans have just proposed defunding Planned Parenthood nationwide. In doing so, they are telling women and people across the country that our healthcare doesn’t matter and that we are undeserving of care. It’s time to stop this bill in its tracks.
- What he's telling us is the same thing those of us who _aren't_ fleeing America are saying. And some of us have been warning about Trump for much longer than Tim, too. Our culture celebritizes people like Tim until we can no longer just state clearly that he's abandoning principles he advocated for.

View full threadAnyone who makes the personal decision to run from fascism has the right to do so; we humans only live once. What you cannot do is flee judgment. What you cannot do is demand respect. And what you _shouldn't_ do is turn your running away into a publicity tour for your brand. That feels shameless.
- To speak frankly: if Tim wants to f*** off to Canada, he can f*** off to Canada. I shouldn't see it used in the NYT as evidence Tim understands the threat of fascism better than the rest of us do. But nor would I want to read attacks on Tim in the NYT. Again, if you want to f*** off, just f*** off.

- At least five more MPs have decided to vote against UK assisted dying bill
- Great. Because humans should never be able to live their dying days with dignity of choices. I hope none of them ever have to go through dying of an incurable, painful cancer, neurological or other deadly type of disease. Especially know, most people do NOT die peacefully in their sleep these days.
- WTF does it have to do with somebody else's religion whether somebody else who is dying slowly and painfully wishes to end their own life with a shred of dignity. The decision should always rest with the individual.
