Today's date in 1959 marks the death of Sidney Bechet, clarinetist and jazz icon, whose long career was hamphered by irascibility. In one dispute he declared, "Bechet does not play a wrong chord." and shot at another musician, wounded a bystander and added: "He might shoot the wrong person though."
