According to ChatGPT, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio Cortez has introduced exactly two bills that have become law.
And both of them were passed by the Republican-led Congress and signed into law by Donald Trump this year!
Big if true. (It's not).
The first bill, H.R.1944 - 10 Percent Credit Card Interest Rate Cap Act, was introduced, but hasn't passed out of committee or nor even received a vote in the House—much less been signed into law.
www.congress.gov/bill/119th-c...H.R. 398, the Geothermal Cost-Recovery Authority Act? Same thing! She's introduced it, but it hasn't even received a vote in the House.
This is the sort of question I'd find ChatGPT and LLMs useful for answering IF they were good at answering them. But they aren't!
I asked it again, however, and this time I got a different (and correct) answer:
And maybe what made the difference was that I used correct punctuation and "have" instead of "has" the second time I asked. (The first time was just quick, lazy curiosity about what it'd say). I don't see why, though.
And are most people strictly using correct punctuation and grammar with ChatGPT?
Ok, nope, that wasn't it; I tried again with correct punctuation and once it again it told me that AOC got bills signed into law in 2025.
I am only able to catch these errors because I'm familiar with the subject. And also leery of trusting LLMs like ChatGPT.
But if I have to restrict my use of ChatGPT to areas I'm already familiar enough with so I can spot its mistakes, and if I feel the need to fact check the answers it gives me, what is the point?
I'd spend less time using my own research skills.
ChatGPT just ain't that useful for me.
May 7, 2025 14:25The problem is, most Americans aren't nearly a dilligent and will take the GPT answer as fact especially if the have no basis to question the results
I find it easier and more efficient to proof read a given answer than to fill a blank space. But you're right, whole AI promises to replace many mediocre people, it will require many experts to be overworked doing QA on the AI efforts. Much like off shoring software development.
I got it to build me a software application in about 10x the time it would usually take.
It’s just a tool but it can be quite a useful one

In its present state, it's highly useful for idea generation. Based on his interests, what colleges should my son consider? What should we do for my son's birthday party? Give me an itinerary for my vacation to Miami.
It's great for getting started thinking about a topic. It's not the final answer
