Digital Salvage Art Collective
Just a little arts collective supporting funky projects and cool adventures. We like to "salvage" bits and pieces of old art projects from years ago and reimagine them with digital tools we did not have at the time. Music, Photography and a bit of AI.

- YUMMY! Lucky!
- We always have lots of news and stories on our page. Take a look sometime and see if there's something you find interesting! #art #agriculture #entrepreneurship artsincubator.ca/news/
- Terrific program with inspiring young people. Can't wait to see how much they grow this year.
- Ontario Nonprofits experienced an 83% surge in demand for programs post-pandemic. Arts & culture organizations saw a 68% increase, sports & recreation organizations an 83% increase in demand. In Northwestern Ontario, 85% of organizations reported increases in demand. artsincubator.ca/arts/northwe...

View full threadReports paint a bleak picture of staff burnout and turnover. 63% of nonprofits are worried about losing employees due to burnout, a consequence of increased demand, low wages, and heavy workloads.
- Nonprofits in Northwestern Ontario's unorganized territories face systemic disadvantages, including geographic isolation, lack of infrastructure, funding inaccessibility, and limited government support.
- Beyond the general decline in volunteerism (55% of charities reporting fewer volunteers), the report highlights the particular vulnerability of nonprofits in unorganized territories due to their heavy reliance on unpaid labor.
- With 55% of all Canadian nonprofits having no paid staff, the loss of volunteers can be catastrophic, potentially leading to program shutdowns or even organizational collapse.
- 39% of Ontario nonprofits believe they are at significant risk of not existing in the next three years, with this risk being even higher for organizations in Northern Ontario and Indigenous-led organizations, where 29% reported such a risk.

- It might be environmental shock. You've had them indoors for a few months, and now they're out in wind and super hot weather. They might not be acclimated to the rapid change in temperature. You've got super hot weather right now and they're not used to it.
- Great project and inspiring Indigenous youth with this program. Give them a follow and help them connect!
- One of the things we didn't expect to see a lot of, with many of us growing up in the north, were snails in the garden. Creepy! Weird! Horrifying, but also fascinating at the same time. We were afraid to touch them LOL.
- We love sustainable #agriculture. Despite a tough growing year for berries impacting our jam aspirations, the experience of making pickles was incredibly rewarding. It was a key part of understanding food production methods. This year, we’re going to spice them up! artsincubator.ca/creative-ent...
- A flashback to last year's strawberries! We are profoundly grateful for the vital support from #Manitoba #Agriculture Indigenous #Food Systems and Agriculture program and the Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership for supporting last year's program!
- Raindrops pooling on lilies from last year's food security, sustainable agriculture and horticulture project.
- Pansies were among our favourites. The bright colours. Lots of us grew up in the north, where there aren't big flowers or such bright colours. #art #photography #flowers
- Most of our programs are about art, creative entrepreneurship and food security. We often don't mention that many of us LOVE gardening! We're hard at work getting this year's horticulture projects started so we thought we'd share some of last year's beautiful flowers. #art #photography
- "Ah, the ulu. Just holding it in my hand connects me to generations of Inuit who have come before. This isn’t just a knife; it’s a piece of our history, our ingenuity, and our deep respect for the animals that sustain us." #foodsecurity #art
- Drying meat is a time honoured tradition.
- Generations gather to share maktaaq—whale skin and blubber—carrying on traditions through food, memory, and kinship. In every slice, every taste, there is a reminder: food is more than nourishment. It’s how we belong.
- Qauruti: Wearing Our Culture With Pride: In our culture, the Qauruti is more than a headband—it’s a symbol of who we are and where we come from. artsincubator.ca/arts/qauruti...
- A New Season Begins With Raspberries: With healthy canes emerging across the patch, we’re on track to harvest enough for a small run of raspberry preserves or syrups this season.
- Sowing Sustainability: Early Growth In Our Strawberry Patches. Second season begins for northern food systems and agriculture project.
- The #apple trees we tried planting last year are starting to bloom. We'll have close to 30 more going in this year. Still a few years to go yet, so nothing to eat from these trees. But eventually, we'll have an orchard. We'll plant about .25 acres this year. #food #production #agriculture

- Wild idea! Looks terrific too!
- Today we were cleaning out this year's strawberry patches. We started growing them last year as part of a sustainable agriculture and food development project. Lots of new growth this year!
- A beautiful raspberry bush sprouts into the world. Last year, we started a small food production project with support from Manitoba Agriculture. We can't wait to see what grows this year.

- Rubber and frost meet, right here. Where have we been? Where are we going? That horizon... it's softer now, the light uncertain. Each mark on this tire, a story of the land. But the land is changing, breathing differently. I see it, we all do. artsincubator.ca/digitalsalva...
- We like to look for strange and inspiring messages scrawled on walls and under bridges.
- Peeking through this hole in a carving we can see the work of the Group of Seven. Some of those classic paintings were done on cardboard because back then the artists didn't have any budget. #art #photography
- Work Faster. Work Smarter. Not harder!
- Another part of our digital salvage project is that we're using AI a lot more. Sure, we have fun learning to make image generators and picture and other fun stuff. But as we rebuild organizational capacity, we're actually using AI for process improvement; measurement, reporting and administration.
- Lots and lots of space for recreation, arts, food.
- Now we have a great space for doing arts and culture workshops. It smells nice too! Digital Salvage to us means taking the best aspects of our past projects and programs and adapting them for transforming and exploring new ways to do stuff. #art
- Our little library and all the books and things got chucked. But thanks to the act of "Digital Salvage" we were able to not just rebuild, but to also transform! Why go back to an old system and ways of doing? That's where we use a lot of AI tools for process, policy development and administration.
- People sometimes ask us why we call our new arts program Digital Salvage. It's because we flooded and our whole art space was completely wrecked. Since we spent so much time salvaging materials from backups and past projects, we decided to call it "digital salvage" because it was! 😅
- In the art sector, terms like “structured data,” “metadata,” and “linked open data” are often met with confusion—or worse, dismissal. For many in the creative world, these tools can appear alien to the artistic process. artsincubator.ca/artificial-i...
- A new photography exhibition titled Winnipeg in Black and White is now on view, showcasing the work of emerging Indigenous artist Tony Eetak. Black-and-white images reveal hidden rhythms and emotional textures of the city through the eyes of Indigenous youth artists. artsincubator.ca/arts/indigen...
- Youth artists like Tony Eetak have been learning about photography and digital literacy with support from the Manitoba Arts Council Indigenous 360 program. Love what they're creating! #art #photography
- Youth had fun learning to make a photo gallery. #art #photography
