Has anyone used these indoor seed germination trays to start fruits and veggie plants?
Thought I’d buy one just for funsies to see if they work better than pots outdoors.
I love experiments.

Am I seeing that right? Lights in the tray? I am curious how well that works. I would assume the shoots would grow in random directions.
They can work great. Two important things: make sure your potting mix is sterilized and make sure they get LOTS of light. Without enough light, they will quickly grow leggy.
I was like oh this is a great idea and then I remembered I have cats.
Yes. I use them for plants that can be a bit finicky. I have a set up with water trays under the pots and grow lights. Works great!
I've used them for years. I usually start my vegetables and herbs in them in March, then take the trays outside to acclimate to weather on nice days in April/May, bringing them in on cold nights. After Mother's Day they get planted for the summer, harvest July - whenever the nights get too cold.
32/36 sprouted.
No grow lights.
I had to up pot quicker that I expected.
Seedlings are a month old today.
You can make one.
Materials:
Mason jar
Paper towel
Soil of your choice
Directions: Lightly wet a double layer of paper towel and line the jar with it. Fill halfway with your soil. Put seed(s) on outside of paper towel, aligned with current topsoil. Fill past seed, toward top, but leave some space.
/2 Finally, expose to sunlight, and gently water as necessary. Watch the seed sprout. Transplant after growth above soil.
Not veggies, but plants for my pollinator gardens. They work very well. A tip I wish I had known in advance; when they sprout, run a fan near them to simulate the wind, otherwise they tend to have weak stems.
Yes, works great! Cut plastic bottle in half and place one in each.
