- Saw this unfolding in Leeds 2 weeks ago. Sat on a surgical assessment corridor with 11 people, half of whom were over 80 and had been there for 8+ hours without being seen, or fed, or given a drink. One person arrived after 15 hrs in A&E first. www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home...

View full threadI don’t want to denigrate how hard all these people work but there is something really broken in the NHS now. Care is constantly being divided between people and patients become problems to solve not people in need of help. Compassion is lost in too many parts of the system.
- Instead of fighting for Reform votes, Labour might be better served working out how we grow a positive future for our care industries. One thing is certain though, making it harder for immigrants to work in healthcare is not the answer.
- and therefore just to make an appointment back with his GP. Everyone wanted to ask about tests and procedures but this was batted back to nurses, who also seemed not to have the full picture.
- Another asked for the consultant to speak to his daughter about what was happening as he didn’t fully understand. The doctor told him to hang up. As he left the patient he commented loudly to his retinue that it was not his job to speak to panicky relatives..
- While we were there she found she had got a job in a private hospital with better pay and conditions. She said how said she was to leave her patients but how much easier it would be not to have to always work weekends and to have fewer beds to manage.
- Was disappointed however to listen to teams of doctors largely brush aside patient questions and issues. One man was checked by a doctor who then just left him undressed to wait 20 mins for a nurse to arrive. Another wanted to ask how not to end up back in hospital but was told he was discharged
- I will add that ward care was very good, thanks mainly to the Ward Host (who was from the Philippines) who treated everyone with compassion and dignity. She was paid £12 an hour for keeping everything running and people feeling like they might still matter a little. Nurses were also attentive
