I know nothing of climate change. But its complexity is fascinating.
And how should we, our societies, live within biophysical planetary boundaries?

- How to democratize our democracies. I actually think, the complexity of our tech-civilisation, also, how harmful production chains tie into our states' finance, overwhelms any fulltime politician and renders this model near-obsolete. A supporting next step cd be: workers 💯% in command of companies.
- What we see in the UK today, and around the world, is a truth many people are reluctant to recognise: Centralised, hierarchical political systems are innately undemocratic, regardless of who is in charge. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

View full threadThe complexity of our products today, how they're made and where materials come from, also governs how we organize our states, if you imagine the ties to state finance wrt such basic services like UK's NHS, pensions, 🚒, 👮. Maybe, pure politician-hood is overwhelmed by this tech-civilisation.. 3/4
- Maybe, democratization in a tech-civilisation requires workers familiar with the product chain they're involved in to be in command. So they can nip in the bud right at the source atrocities like the diesel murders. It's not fail-proof either. But at least, decision-making wd be more informed. 4/4
- But political parties are the/a platform for citizens in villages & towns to engage. The majority never engages in decision-making even in their hometown. And if they did, they wdn't be able to control supply chains wrt human rights, the rights of nature or next generations. 1/4
- If workers had full command over their company's biz conduct, wd they democratically opt to adding lead to the cinnamon they make, to make it heavier, add software to diesel motors to circumvent life-saving NOx regulation? Or wd they democratically oust such sociopaths among their colleagues? 2/4

- “If we do not act, by 2050 aviation emissions will be about a quarter of all human-caused emissions – that will be really a very shameful position". Amen. Great to see industry insiders speak the truth on this important issue 🙏 www.theguardian.com/environment/...

View full threadIt's industry talk, ie, it's what they aim for. Also, non-developed nations offer growth potential, if overall, aviation is not kept at sustainable level. Just and sustainable in developed nations cd be 500 flight km/person/year, vs today 3150km. And 1065 km/person/year in others, vs today 711km.
- Rationing flight km like this, and making trade of rations possible on ebay – in developed nations on citizen level, in other nations maybe on national level as long as their demand is so low – helps fight poverty and helps poor nations to electrify with RE and in adaptation bsky.app/profile/anlo...
