Alethic Avenger
Anonymous proponent of reason and decency; superfluous, system-building amateur analytic philosopher. Appreciates sharp yet courteous critique. Regrettably finds principled disagreement sometimes leads to blocking (~17.5% of all posts).
- Appeals to "normal people" like those to "common sense" are based on the same idea of a hierarchy where certain groups & perspectives are seen as more valid than others. Anything outside this arbitrary "norm" is cast as decadent & illegitimate. It reinforces hierarchical structures & power dynamics.
- While the faculty of common sense is often unfairly turned into a rhetorical device, you seem to be eroding standards for ascertaining and communicating a kind of objectivity; if objectivity is "oppressive" then I'm afraid that's simply what it must be.

View full threadThanks Doomer Boomer. Go back to your Debbie Downer party. Post like yours breed despair and apathy. The last thing we need for this fight. You're not avenging anything. You're just whining about how things can never change and they're not so bad really...
- I see an ad hominem, a straw man, guilt by association, labelling, an emotional appeal, a dismissal of pragmatism, and a dismissal of counterarguments as "harmful", the last being, ironically, precisely the way to entrench a system and prevent its improvement or replacement.
- And someone actually DIED so he could have the ultimate PHOTO OP........

- Thanks but I'm not really interested.
- You didn't? You really think you're smart, don't you?
- I'm not looking to intimidate anyone.

- You're so full of shit.
- Would you like me to diagnose your logical fallacies?
- You are every bit as smug and pretentious as my original reply warranted. Wish I hadn't chosen to be so polite. You read the Occam's Razor wiki once, and now you're a political philosopher. Seeing an obvious conspiracy and denying it for partisan or intellectual reasons doesn't make you either.
- I didn't even mention cognitive biases.
- Reasoning is the use of sound logic, strong evidence, and mitigated emotion; rationality is the consistent and effective use of reasoning.
- Did we ever hear from the ER doctor who treated 47 that day? Why didn’t 47 wear a bandage throughout his recovery and, when he didn’t, there was no visible scar? Coincidence my ass.

- I don't certainly know and I don't certainly care.
- The feminine urge to tell you that's not how you do it.

- Actually I'm not sure everyone imposes gender onto everything. What gender is "1+1=2"?
