Catching up on Andor and I have a question: how was Dedra raised in an imperial kinder block from the age of 3? She’s in her mid-30s in Andor so would have been born nearly 20 years before the fall of the Republic.
May 14, 2025 05:26The way I read it is that someone as hardcore Imperial as an ISB agent isn't going to even acknowledge the Republic as ever having existed. "We have always been at war with Eurasia."
So in reality it was a Republic kinderblock. But there is no Republic now, only the Empire. Ergo, an Imperial kinderblock.
Propaganda - easier to refer to it as Imperial, rather than just say Republic. To her and others it’s the same thing anyway!
It was probably a Republic one when she went in, but an Imperial one by the time she left. Since she's an Empire gal she probably just sees it as contiguous.
I think she was calling it imperial because she’s just so deeply in the empire’s pocket she credits even her upbringing through the republic to the empire, the “true” state, even then.
Alternatively, maybe people are discouraged from talking positively about the republic at all.
I also assume people age differently in the Star Wars universe & at different rates. Like how Omega was created 1st in the 'Bad Batch', but looks younger than her brothers. Or Grogu.
I always assume Mandalorians are much older than they look too.
Lying to Edie? Rewrote her own childhood to fit an Imperial narrative?
Or it was a Republic Kinderblock, but the standard protocol is to replace Republic with Imperial when referencing the government in order to give more weight to the regime?
