As if I am not getting enough bad luck.
I might have a metatarsal stress fracture. Yes ladies and gentlerats, I BROKE my foot doing NORMAL things.
This is the absolute WORST thing to have happen right as I get a new job. This is the kind of thing that makes employers let you go because you can't perform certain duties 😭😭😭 WHY DOES THIS STUFF HAPPEN TO ME
I have a week and a half before my job formally begins. If I completely stay off this foot til then, I might be able to fake it til I make it during my shifts.
I cannot afford to lose this job. I don't think I can get another one after trying for so many months with no luck.
Are you able to brace and support it in any way?
I have some canes my family has collected over the years but that's it...a pair of crutches is only like $30 on Amazon though so I might get some because only crutches can actually keep you OFF the foot.
Good idea.
And I'm pretty sure it's discrimination to fire you based on a temporary injury but who the fuck is enforcing employment protection laws in this country? No one that I know of.
Unfortunately it's not a case for discrimination.
My friend had this exact thing happen to him a few years ago when he got ina car crash the first week of his new job and was hospitalized They let him go via probationary period clause: they can let employees go for ANY reason in the first 90 days.
May 13, 2025 19:40He tried to appeal it as unfair but his lawyer said they don't have a case due to this probation period thing.
