- happy bday English nurse/social reformer Florence Nightingale, b.1820, and today is International Nurses Day. And the theme this year is “Our Nurses. Our Future. Caring for nurses strengthens economies”. Let us celebrate and support our nurses who do so much and make so many sacrifices.
- i said this before and want to state it again: Trump and his administration have done far more damage to our country and our democracy, freedoms, and Constitution than what happened on 9/11.

- Jefferson Griffin of NC should get zero credit for conceding. It is like a robber who stormed into a bank trying to steal people's savings & was caught, & then wanted to get credit for not getting away with it. Griffin & the GOP in NC including GOP judges were complicit in the attempted robbery.
- happy bday Jewish poet Rose Ausländer, b.1901 in Austria-Hungary. "Paper is paper but it is also a road to the stars to metaphor and meaning blind secrets and to humanity." “Be who you are. / Give what you have.”
- happy bday French artist Jean-Léon Gérôme, b1824 “The fact is that truth is the one thing truly good and beautiful; Nature alone is audacious above anything human; she alone is original & picturesque. It is, then, to her that we must become attached if we wish to interest and enthuse the spectator”
- happy Mothers Day to all those moms and those who mother others in their lives through love and kindness and compassion and acceptance. Having a mom who raised 11 of us and who sacrificed and died too young, I know what you mean to this world. Thank you all.
- Today is feast day of Spanish mystic/priest John of Ávila, or St. John of the Cross, died this day 1569. "Whoever has the truth and does not profess it or behave according to it is trapping the truth in injustice."
- happy bday playwright Suzan-Lori Parks b. 1963, Fort Knox, KY, 1st African American woman to win Pulitzer Prize for drama “And as you walk yr road, as you live yr life, RELISH THE ROAD. And relish the fact that the road of yr life will probably be a windy road.” “History is time that won't quit.”
- RIP Indian poet Kaifi Azmi, died this day 2002. "Flowers bloom in unkempt wilted gardens on the thirst-wrenched earth—clouds collect, hover. Momentarily, the world relinquishes cruelty— momentarily, all stones start to smile."
