I would only add that this problem emerges from tying schooling to an extrinsic reward—degree as keycard to white-collar professions—rather than treating it as an experience containing its own abundant intrinsic rewards
Not saying ChatGPT-based cheating on essays isn't a new problem, but it sits on top of the older problem that—very fundamentally—you can't make anyone learn what they don't want to learn, and a lot of people go through school not wanting to learn what they're supposedly there to learn
