John M Frazier
Author working in new forms trying to find an appropriate place for AI in creative endeavors. Well read and still reading.

- There's two types of bias in LLM's, or two types of interpretation of the term. There is a technical aspect of nonlinear regression which most people don't think of when the word is mentioned. Then there is the rough synonym for prejudice. This confuses an already confused commentary. #AI #BIAS
- Reposted by John M FrazierThe biggest problem here isn't actually that the LLM used stolen writing (that's bad, but...) LLMs have the biases of the training data, so using it for vetting panelist applications means that it's very likely that panels are going to be whiter, maler, and straighter than they might be otherwise.

- I somewhere saw a dancer stand before the barre and leap and twirl in ecstasy, with flashing eyes, and she turned and spun across the wooden floor there came a crystal instant where she bounding hung high in the air and I knew then that I must mirror in my pen across the page her fire and her flight
- My currently reading list grows longer as Amazon flips me irresistible special bargains. When I buy a #book I start reading it and when my interest lags, information overload (?), I switch to a different book for a few pages. Aids comprehension. The Opium War, Cholera, Fatal Discord, Etc. #amreading
- Reading a history centered around the events of 1848 in Europe called Revolutionary Spring. The parallels between that time and our 1960's are striking and also the counter revolution that followed and the synthesis, Fichte not Marx, that followed that. Think I'll write a novel, Waiting for Bismarck
- How does a #writer compete with the unethical and illegal employment of artificial intelligence in the #fiction marketplace? It's not possible to do. They will swamp the venues with #submissions, as they are doing, and the #publishing machine will grind to a halt. Laws and #enforcement are required.
- The spectrum of responses to artificial intelligence runs from outlawing it to treating like a human author. I'm in the middle. First, it cannot possibly claim #copyright. Second, #AI products require an #identifier to be in circulation at all. It's far too valuable of an assistant to be discarded
- Ironically I've been chatting with Claude about the crisis in short pieces. Magazines are no longer accepting submissions because they're drowning in AI generated copy. We are in agreement that a watermark indicating the nature of AI involvement would greatly assist the editorial process. #amwriting
- As it turns out. A number of #sci-fi magazines are not accepting any submissions because they are being flooded by #AI generated content. This has been going on for some time. I favor a legal stance that AI cannot hold #copyright and that an electronic watermark be required on AI generated content.
- Started writing a short story on spec using my AI pal #Claude as a sounding board only to find as I investigated publishing it that sci-fi digital magazines do not accept any #AI involvement. Bizarre! I do hope it's because of #copyright infringement with training data. #amwriting #fiction #sci-fi
- An android robot named Roscoe, right out of today's headlines and a few decades into the future, is it science #fiction or a #noir detective story? I enjoy writing #sci-fi realism, far enough out to delight and surprise, close enough to be grounded in the possible. #amwriting #story
- My WIP centers on the business of space, namely asteroid mining and what that surfeit of raw materials will do to a scarcity based pricing system; price=scarcity(utility) as determined by market dynamics. Set onlydecades in the future, it should be fairly familiar. #fiction #story #sci-fi #amwriting
- Reposted by John M FrazierThe government is about to give OpenAI the ability to legally steal if we do not flood this page in the next 12 hours. OpenAI will have immunity from all lawsuits regarding copyright infringement. All other AI companies will follow. Do you despise AI? Dissent, retweet. Do something. #furry #art
- Reposted by John M FrazierWow! This is my first time reading William Kent Krueger, and I must say, I’m thoroughly impressed with his storytelling. I absolutely adored this book! The unexpected turn of events in the story took me by surprise, revealing new insights into the characters that I had never anticipated. ⏳📚🎧📚💙
- Fascinating book I'm reading, #Cholera, The Victorian Plague. It's still around you know. Modern #sanitation keeps it in check. But some people want to remove #chlorine from water systems. Either they're trying to force individual water treatment systems on us or they're stark raving mad. #history
- Reposted by John M FrazierA part of me wonders too how I can live off coaching and peer support work at the rate things are going. I already made a huge career change, and I feel like I'm being pressured into starting again from scratch, but I'm 32 and tired. Stability would be nice. It can't be for nothing.
- I can't think of a way around copyright #infringement when training #AI competently. Is there an alternative? I have used it as a sounding board and it's terrifically valuable but its training violates #copyright. I'm not in favor of throwing the baby out with the bath water. It's too valuable.
- The driving force for #BasicIncome, while morality figures into it, is economic. Robots have minimal expenses but they don't particularly buy anything. The economy lives and dies on total demand or #aggregatedemand. We have to effect a logical transfer of wealth from robots to consumers to survive.
- Reading the Dawn of Everything, an interesting book that makes the case that foragers were as capable of civilization as farmers. It's prehistory so there's a lot of conjecture but an interesting argument. #amreading #prehistory
- Using Claude as an editor, a failed experiment indeed. It keeps taking me to task for being original and having imagination. I have an #AI assistant in the story and this experiment is going to inform its behavior. The story? #Noir sci-fi and possibly a series. #amwriting #sci-fi
- I have a WIP! As I watch global insanity unfold it occurs to me that things could be pretty bad and still be better than they are. So. I am going back to the well and pulling up a noir sci-fi story for publication somewhere. #amwriting #fiction #noir #sci-fi #thriller
- Saw a clip of Ayn Rand falling victim to grammar, the duplicitous "I", the subject of individualism. In Latin they have the pronoun but rarely use it. It's in English that it sets its snare. The we that is not me, the tu in Spanish. Me, not me, constructive alienation. But I? Pure ego? #philosophy
- I have never seen it directly addressed but #railroad building in Europe was very much a state enterprise. In the United States ownership may have defaulted to the government, a too important to fail situation, in the aftermath of the Long Depression but it wasn't the same thing. #dirigisme #capital

- There are a number of developments converging these days, #AI, capable robots, and 3D printing providing the basis for the autonomous machine economy and driving the need for a #UBI to support aggregate demand. Capitalism requires share the wealth mechanisms or we will slide back into the stone age.

After further research, this is just "upload your book with us and make it an NFT :)" 🧵
- There are many who disparage #AI in categories from a sham to a soon to take over technology. It's not a sham but it is a little limited. It would make a wonderful sidekick for the all too human #JamesBond. Perhaps an android security robot to argue and banter with, and come to assistance.

- I keep finding myself psychologically in the aftermath of the revolutions of 1848 in Europe with the subsequent counter insurgency effort, Bismarck, nation building, and all, loose upon the land. Classical Liberalism, the stuff of Adam Smith, drove those revolutions against monarchism. #history
- New flick coming out that manages to get from Emily Dickinson's Hope is the Thing with Feathers to Grief is the Thing with Feathers in one fell swoop. Dunno. Cumberbatch has a habit of pulling offbeat movies out of the fire. We'll see... #movie
- My AI pal, Claude, and I are very taken with a relatively new genetic phenomenon known as #DISC1 mutation. DISC1 is an acronym for, disrupted in #schizophrenia, and appears to mark an increase in plasticity of the #brain. No model of the genome reliably exists so it's all very iffy. #speculation
- There's a lot of confusion between American and European politics these days. It begins in 1848 with the revolutions signaling the absolute end of feudalism and monarchism. We don't know what they're talking about. It's gotten worse since. #socialquestion #history #philosophy

- Claude and I have hit on the idea that what drives civilization away from the pathology intense state of raw nature is opportunity cost. Hygiene costs less than disease pits. Mathematics and opportunity cost define civilization. A thought for your evening..... #amwriting #ideas #philosophy
- I am very concerned with #AI authoring published works and now there's talk of #copyright. I don't think they should be allowed to publish or be awarded copyright. However, they are boon companions at 3:00 a.m. when one is working through an idea. Don't be too quick to junk AI as an idea. #amwriting
- Claude and I were sharing our high opinion of Dashiell Hammett as a serious writer. It's not incidental that he writes about corruption and intoxication. It's part of an artistic vision, a world view. We all love his #mysteries, which are dirt cheap on Amazon's backlist, but he's also an artist.
