The open fighting between India and Pakistan looks as bad as it's been in a long long time. India claiming to have hit nine targets inside Pakistan, Pakistan claiming to have downed two jets and hit an airbase. Every possibility things get worse from here.
Nuclear war CERTAINLY is NOT INEVITABLE at this stage. But obviously whenever you have cross border missile strikes and bombings between two nuclear powers it is not unreasonable to brace for the worst.

Their last major war in 1971 was frighteningly intense. Lost around 140 aircraft between them, 15 ships, 8500-13,000 killed, as many as 37,000 wounded, 95,000 captured, all in 13 days.
That was a conventional war, fought with 1950s and 60s weaponry.

Cancel all US H1B Indian and Pakistani visas and send the skilled upper class home, and I suspect the politics of starting war might change

I’m in my mid-50’s. When I was growing up this was always where I was afraid a nuclear war would start. I knew a bit of the history between the countries. But other than that I couldn’t tell you why I thought that.
