When I was a little girl it was a thing to wear a rose to church on Mother’s Day, a red rose for a living mother, a white rose for a dead one. My neighbor’s only blooming rose bush was pink. When a church lady asked my friend what a pink rose meant, she told the lady it meant her mom was pregnant.
