Don't blame me that it's all crimey in Washington. I voted for the lady who got felons convicted, not the convicted felon.
- Plain and direct, not mellifluous and hyperbolic, are the adjectives the legal drafter aims to achieve. It should feel logical, not emotional. Confident and respectful. Legal citations should support, but not dominate; a motion should address facts over law. This is excellent legal writing.
- Spoke tonight about the legal anticanon at toastmasters. Dred Scott, Plessy, Lochner, Korematsu. Had them spellbound. Ended with: "Interesting history, but why should you care about it? Because it should tell you, the courts are not coming to save us. We must do that for ourselves, democratically."
- Things were different in the 60's. Subject: Joseph Magnin, black sheep of the Magnin family of San Francisco based retailers.
