What's happening with these grants is much more complicated and mostly unknown. None of the NIH have been officially cancelled. The NIH was just ordered to stop paying. They got the Unis to enforce silence on their own campuses because they thought they were "negotiating" and cld get the funds back.
2/ Just as critically, numerous cancer cure research studies (along with various other diseases) are being killed in secret while making it hard for news to get out because nothing has officially been canceled. If you have a loved one with cancer, sorry.
I am a Northwestern faculty impacted just how you describe. My research - including an active trial
of cancer / cardiac disease prevention, part of a large national network - has been frozen, despite a notice of award for our renewal. Year 6 of a 6 year study. We are completely in the dark.

I thought NOAs were accompanied by the $$$. I just got the NOA for a non-competing renewal and thought I was in the clear but maybe not.
That’s insane. It’s essentially a waste of money not to finish ongoing studies. It’s throwing away 5 years of grant money to “save” 1 year of grant money and likely losing more money by ending up with lawsuits. Just completely asinine. How much $ does that trial need to finish year 6?
