- Wow! I think 2005 for me. I bought a branded dinner tray from the merchandise stall.

- It’s one of the best songs ever and I strongly recommend it to you! Tom wouldn’t understand because it doesn’t have any rap-metal in it.

- It’s an R.E.M. lyric!!! From New Adventures in Hi-Fi.
- 🤨
- Some said it couldn’t be done. That it was impossible; ridiculous; absurd. But @tomchivers.bsky.social and I have done it: recorded a whole podcast episode about collider bias. www.thestudiesshowpod.com/p/episode-57...

- Wow! Obviously I find that upsetting because Tom wrote it, but nevertheless…

- In case you didn’t know, I’ve been doing these monthly Substack link posts about bad science (fraud, the replication crisis, bias in science, dodgy journals, all that stuff). Feel free to subscribe, or to send me links to include in the next one! www.sciencefictions.org/p/science-fi...

- Dismayed to come to a different platform and find this guy is still tweeting about me all the time. I even pre-emptively blocked him!

- This plus the added push factor of Elon Musk; and the election marking a clear point after which a lot of people thought “enough is enough”. That’s my guess- though it might also be just pure luck.

- Depressed, but not actually surprised, to see that Morrissey is now singing in front of slide shows of “Puppetmaster” Bill Gates and Anthony Fauci 😖😩

- I spent maybe 3 years of high school completely in love with him, and I’ve had a very soft spot for him ever since…

- He hasn’t even read the book.

- I just tend to reserve the nastiness for research that’s bad—rather than research I agree with and which is obviously attempting to make other research less bad as well.
- [Not loaded yet]
- As I say, not surprised 😖
- I think “wit” is going a little far, don’t you?
- [Not loaded yet]
- So you think it’s good, but you’d rather just be nasty about it online anyway? Whatever makes you feel good about yourself I guess!
- This is such a silly straw man, and Carl (and everyone reposting this) should know better. The argument is that *to the greatest extent possible, science should not be political*. Everyone agrees that it IS political, but that’s bad! We should make it less so.
- This user blocks the quoter. When I was 5, I loved science, which I took to be planets and magnets and chemicals and shit. Soon I realized science was a collective human activity, and these were just the objects of its attention. Anyway, whenever I read an OpEd on how science isn't political, I think "Are you 5 years old?"
- [Not loaded yet]
- Yup, I think that’s exactly it.
- [Not loaded yet]
- Carl Bergstrom saying you must be a little kid if you think science isn’t political.

- And thanks for your obscurantism. ❤️
- [Not loaded yet]
- You certainly haven’t.
- [Not loaded yet]
- That’s not true at all! I hate scientists saying political things I agree with, too*. Obviously there are loads of edge cases but there are some things that are unambiguously political. *e.g. I wanted Harris to win the US Election but hated that Nature endorsed her.

- The task is extremely difficult but they must do their best regardless!

- Haha! Oh well, I suppose that improves my experience a bit.
- This is the kind of echo-chamber slop I was hoping NOT to see on this platform!

- Love this podcast! Good banter, mediocre science.
- For those who don't know: @stuartjritchie.bsky.social and I run a science-based podcast called The Studies Show! Our latest episode is on RFK Jr and water fluoridation www.thestudiesshowpod.com/p/episode-56... but we've got about 70 episodes now: check them out here www.thestudiesshowpod.com/archive

- Absolutely love a good bad book review, and this one is hilarious. Jordan Peterson’s new book sounds absolutely dreadful, and maybe even a little psychotic…? www.thetimes.com/article/413d...

- I guess that’s okay, given he just spouts meaningless garbage these days.

- I genuinely think he and Les Dawson are mixed up in my brain - very charismatic indeed!
- Wish he had!!!!
- The review is funny all the way through, but in particular I LOL’d at this part:
- A question inspired by this brilliant article by @engber.bsky.social: does anyone know ANY psychology research done at a business school that’s (a) good and (b) important? www.theatlantic.com/magazine/arc...
