Huge news on Patreon! Because of the Apple v. Epic ruling, they are not only dropping the 30% Apple Store charge on the iOS app, they are also halting the move to subscription billing for all creators - which would have affected creators like me, who use a "per video" structure than monthly.
I subscribe to a couple patreons through the Apple app (I know I shouldn’t, but I didn’t find out about the shady business till after, whatever nobody’s perfect). Does this mean that now more of money is going to the creators and not getting scrapped off by Apple?
I asked this in the discord and, so long as you are in the US [because this ruling only applies there] you will be able to remove that fee [for you/the creator depending on how they set it up] if you cancel and repledge after their next app update goes through to will allow you an alt way to pay.
I’m in Canada so I guess it doesn’t apply to me.
Guess not unless courts rule over there and force Apple to comply as well U-U
