- Reposted by Steven GreenThe worst element of what happened this week isn't even about immigration specifically. It's that Starmer surrendered against populism.

- Reposted by Steven GreenI really regret saying Labour has finally lost my vote because there is not a day that goes by when I don’t wish I could say it again.
- Reposted by Steven GreenVery ashamed today of Starmer/Labour's comments about 'island of strangers' and 'incalculable damage'. It's the job of the government to leave the country in a better place than they found it, not to appeal to the base instincts of a nation in order simply to carry on governing.
- Starmer is losing it. Formenting racism for political purposes is not on. My email to my MP @katiewhitemp.bsky.social
- Reposted by Steven GreenAnd politically stupid, too. Alienates core vote (& they do have places to go) in pursuit of votes he'll rarely get, & demolishes his core policy agenda of growth, making his re-election more unlikely. Even those (inc. me) willing to cut him a lot of slack feel betrayed. A truly awful day for UK.
- Hard to say how disappointing this morning‘s speech really was. Morally AND intellectually. Agree with every line here by @iandunt.bsky.social 👇
- Reposted by Steven GreenMy letter to the Prime Minister. #immigration
- Yes - Starmer is indulging in double speak. "incalculable" is designed to be interpreted as "to big to calculate" by the anti-migrant crowd but really means "cannot be calculated". He is dog whistling to the right but hopes he can persuade his core vote the term is neutral. Not working for me.
- Reposted by Steven GreenStarmer’s immigration focus is the dumbest, stupidest piece of political manoeuvring I’ve seen in a long time. His rhetoric is going to split his coalition and whatever he promises will only drive the racists to demand more. You can’t placate them. It’s a losing strategy.
- Reposted by Steven GreenOh, and if you think you can convince me to vote Labour ‘to keep out Farage’ by being exactly the kind of government that Farage would lead, you need to brush up on your logic.
- Reposted by Steven GreenI guess it would be too much for them to ask whether it would improve the country rather than whether it will win votes. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
- Reposted by Steven GreenStarmer and the coterie of Blue Labourites poorly advising him desperately need to believe we’ve moved on from Brexit as it’s so uncomfortable for them but many of us will keep shouting about the damage their denial is doing. The economy simply can’t move on. www.theguardian.com/politics/202...
- Pressure for SM and CU are only compromise positions because few politicians are brave enough to campaign for Join. And all the talk of "moving on from Brexit" is only possible for Labour (long term) if they are taking votes from Reform. They aren't and the Labour base remains resolutely pro-EU.
- www.theguardian.com/society/2025... Tell me again what Starmer's Labour Party is for! We voted to save the NHS from Tory cuts. We got Starmer committed to cut the NHS in their place. Where is the change? Where is the ambition?
- Reposted by Steven GreenBut this manifestly isn't a way to "counter" Reform. It's just an endorsement of Reform. If it's what Glasman believes, then he should simply join Reform. www.theguardian.com/politics/202...
- Reposted by Steven GreenThe fundamental issue is that what is lacking is the narrative that brings this laudable list of things together into an overall, direct, compelling vision and points to a direction and a future. So just continuing to list the things in response seems, frankly, a little tone deaf.
- Reposted by Steven GreenCould the UK-EU Summit reset post-Brexit politics? New post on my Brexit & Beyond Blog. If framed as a major strategic announcement, the Summit could challenge the Farage insurgency far more effectively than Labour's 'make Brexit boring' approach: chrisgreybrexitblog.blogspot.com/2025/05/coul...
- Reposted by Steven GreenA striking feature of the English local election results: On the right: Conservatives lose 676 seats, Reform UK gain 677 (almost same number) On the left¢re: Labour lose 186 seats, LD+Greens gain 208 (similar number)
- Reposted by Steven GreenWhenever I speculate why the heck Labour won't do stuff that seem perfectly in line with their traditional politics and the image they so often try to project, I get called a conspiracy theorist, or worse. I don't have conclusive evidence why they're so dysfunctional, I only observe that they are.
