  • Query: if you know of a major news outlet that has put the situation anywhere close to this plainly (not punditry: reporting) please point me to it. I haven't seen it. The U.S. has been taken over by a corrupt, authoritarian regime run by malevolent lunatics, and they're not even reporting it
    • We have a govt that’s engaged in human trafficking, that’s openly allowing a gulf petrostate to bribe its leadership, that’s reshaping the refugee program in overtly racist terms, that’s almost ended American foreign aid entirely, that’s doing its level best to crash the economy from the rose garden

  • Political journalists affirmatively chose a profession focused on politics and government, in which the (stated) core duty is to help citizens understand them, but don’t care at all about politics, government, or those citizens.
    • The media loves trump because of stories like this— spontaneous, easy to report, and improper enough that they can say it raises ethics questions without accusing him of being unethical. "Qatar plane" and its day 2/3/4 stories are all fun for a press bored by Biden and resentful of the left for it

  • It helps to remember that these people are trying trying to force us to re-litigate stuff that was settled decades and even centuries ago. Basic human rights and standards of decency. They might cause mass suffering and death for some time to come, but they can’t win.

Also, how is "leave trans people alone and let them live their lives as they have for decades" not the "moderate" position here? Whenever people call for "moderating" on trans issues, they're calling for actively oppressing trans people, actively restricting trans lives.

  • Have there been any recent, gossipy (but good) pieces about Cheryl Hines? Had she been widely shunned in Hollywood? Has there been some kind of explanation? I know little about her, but I know she was very well-regarded professionally and personally. I never liked her much in “Curb,” but most did.

  • Don't just shake your head over this. Move on to the next step: realizing that his supporters will buy it wholesale, and then a majority of the rest of us -- led by the mainstream media -- will excuse them and downplay the severity of Trump's corruption and the ridiculousness of this statement. .
    • REPORTER: What do you say to people who view that luxury jet as a personal gift to you? TRUMP: You're ABC fake news, right? Let me tell you -- you should be embarrassed asking that question. They're giving us a free jet ... when they give you a putt, you pick it up and you walk to the next hole

  • This isn't merely kinda dumb. This is an inability to form a basic logical thought at a level not far past object permanence. And it's all because his main goal in life is not to inform the populace about their government, but to differentiate himself from what he thinks are the sheeple.

Corruption requires explict quid pro quo. It is not corrupt to take an action that aligns with the interest of a person who gives you a gift, unless the official action was in direct response to that gift--a bribe. Terms matter. Accuracy and fairness matters. Regardless of what social media wants.
