Some analysis here from journalist Michael Harris: "The form of neoconservativism ushered in by Stephen Harper has morphed into angry authoritarianism under Pierre Poilievre. It will not sell in Canada and the electoral record proves it."

Conservatives Will Blow It by Keeping Poilievre | The Tyee
Voters in his own riding rejected his style of politics. And Canada will again.
May 7, 2025 11:23PP’s angry authoritarianism has sold quite well actually, and that’s an issue that still needs addressing. Yes, the Cons lost, but given the stark choice presented, FAR too many were still sucked into the far-right’s batshit vortex of mis/disinformation, grievance, and hate. We’ve got work to do!
It sells in AB. It’s why Jeff is being dropped in there and why they are howling about separation.
I stopped voting Conservative after the late Brian Mulroney departed. The death knell for me was when the Canadian Alliance, the renamed Reform Party, and the Progressive Conservatives joined in 2003. That's when the tone changed.

#cdnpoli #abpoli #onpoli #IDUPlaybookThe only Canadian politician Justin Trudeau is more unpopular than is Pierre Poilievre, and Trudeau is gone. But the CPC is blind to it. Both Andrew Scheer and Erin O'Toole lost elections, but retained their seats. Both stepped down. But not Skippy: big mistake.
Let's hope he's right. The people who voted for this type of conservative populism in the States are finding out (though slow to realize) what authoritarianism is doing to them. I'm also hoping that security clearances for MPs, or at least leaders, becomes mandatory.
I agree with other commenters here. Considering the CPC's approach they had far too much support. It is a concern.
Pierre and the CPC have made it abundantly clear that they have no interest in appealing to (or serving the interests of) average Canadians. If you aren't a ride-or-die conservative who blindly votes and obeys, you dont matter. The CPC is the party of corporate interest and Facebook whackos.

There were approximately 13 ridings where the Liberals and NDP split the vote and allowed a Conservative to win at roughly 32%. The election wasn’t as close as the Cons believe it to be.
But it has sold here. Over 40% of the country bought it. Not just Alberta and Saskatchewan but the 905 belt and much of eastern and southwest Ontario. Never say it can't happen here because it always does, just a few years later.
