The SAS Collective
A group of committed Specialist, Associate Specialist and Specialty (SAS) doctors, working to improve the careers and retention of doctors in the UK | #SASsix | #SASsky | #SASbyChoice | #SASdocsRock
- Reposted by The SAS CollectiveAm I followed by any MPs? The @sascollective.com have been invited to a parliamentary event next week, hosted by @peterprinsleymp.bsky.social, on behalf of @assocanaes.bsky.social. We'd love to see you there! The future of the medical workforce will be defined by SAS careers. #SASsix
- The #SASsix has now been adopted by multiple employers, as a route to support their doctors to progress in their careers. If you want to join them, and be seen in your region as a supportive place to work, get in touch. We would love to help you.
- What is the #SASsix, we hear you ask? It is the right contract for the work done, support to develop your career, and the opportunity for all senior doctors to become leaders and educators. It supports doctors to achieve their potential, regardless of their career route. Help us make this normal.
- SAS CONTENT ALERT! NHS Employers has launched a hub to support the creation of Specialists. Progression to this senior role should be a normal expectation within a SAS career. Seniority, and autonomy should be normal career goals. This is one of the #SASsix. www.nhsemployers.org/specialist-g...
- Fantastic to see the next generation of medical students at Lincoln Medical School learning under the leadership of SAS doctors. Congratulations to Rob Fleming on his appointment as Lead for Admissions and Clinical Associate Professor, joining Dean @profjread.bsky.social. #SASsix #SASproud
- I am delighted to announce that I've been appointed to @profjread.bsky.social 's team at the University of Lincoln, as a Clinical Associate Professor and Lead for Admissions for its Medical School. Wish me luck!
- This morning, Sky News AND the Guardian confused Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) with the Special Air Service (SAS) when covering Heathrow. We would like to reassure everyone who has been in touch that Specialist, Associate Specialist, and Specialty (SAS) doctors are just fine. Thanks for asking!
- We are absolutely delighted to announce that Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust have decided to adopt the #SASsix in their approach to their medical workforce going forwards. Welcome aboard! www.sfh-tr.nhs.uk/work-for-us/
- Morning all! Thanks again to our recent followers. We appreciate you. If you want to read more about who we are, what we do, and why we think the #SASsix is important for the modern workforce, you can find out more in this @nhsemployers.bsky.social blog. www.nhsemployers.org/articles/sup...
- Reposted by The SAS CollectiveIn recent decades we’ve lost too many general and acute hospital beds in the UK, without creating sufficient alternative capacity outside hospital. This has resulted in entirely predictable risks and harms, writes @mancunianmedic.bsky.social www.bmj.com/content/388/...
- What is the #SASsix? The SAS six is a campaign, designed around the idea that every doctor needs support to develop, the right contract for the work done, and the opportunity to achieve their potential as leaders and educators. The NHS is in crisis, and this IS one of the solutions.
- Thanks to everyone who followed us this week, getting us past 1500. We are really grateful for your support! If anyone wants to know more about the #SASsix campaign, and why we think it matters, this @nhsemployers.bsky.social blog is a great place to start. www.nhsemployers.org/articles/sup...
- Reposted by The SAS CollectiveMore NHS Trusts commit to #SASsix @sascollective.com
- We are delighted that Nottinghamshire Healthcare have decided to join our campaign and support the #SASsix in their organisation! They join multiple other Trusts across the country doing so, improving careers and retention of doctors in the NHS. www.nottinghamshirehealthcare.nhs.uk/latest-news/...
- We are incredibly grateful for the support of these organisations. They are allies in our campaign to make the careers of doctors better, and we couldn't have gotten this far without them. If YOUR organisation wants to join our campaign, get in touch. We can accomplish a lot together! #SASsix
- Had a fabulous meeting of the SAS Collective tonight, talking about how we can support the Trusts that have signed up to implement the change. The #SASsix is about meaningful action to further the careers of doctors. It makes sense to do this.
- Reposted by The SAS CollectiveThe Black Country ICB are looking for 5 Associate Medical Directors: beta.jobs.nhs.uk/candidate/jo... SAS doctors are specifically encouraged to apply. Applications close 6 January 2025. #SASsix action. @sascollective.com A great example of inclusive leadership-CMO Dr Ananta Dave
- The @rcoanews.bsky.social were kind enough to reference our work in this report. They too believe that the right contract for the work done, support to develop your career, and the opportunity to achieve your potential as a leader and an educator are vital parts of being a doctor. #SASsix.

- Afternoon all! Thanks to all of our recent followers. We are very grateful for your support. During SAS week, we released a short video explaining what we are trying to achieve. Introducing the #SASsix to your organisation is good for doctors, services AND patients. youtu.be/d7VBKNdgiY8?...
- This year, many organisations chose to endorse or support the #SASsix, as a road map to securing the futures of doctors in the NHS. The HCSA were the first, and we are very grateful to them. It meant a lot to us, and means a lot to SAS and locally-employed doctors. www.hcsa.com/news-views/n...
- Reposted by The SAS Collective@sascollective.com The SAS collective is well worth a follow for all things medical career related especially if you’re interested in your options…
- Reposted by The SAS CollectiveToday's GMC workforce report speaks of doctors "choosing" to find themselves outside of formal training. For some this is choice, for others a necessity. Regardless of how someone finds themself in this position, we need to make this somewhere people can have a career and achieve their potential.
- If anyone is wondering what a career outside of formal training is supposed to look like in 2024, it is supposed to look like this. These are the national contracts negotiated for doctors in this position, and this is what the national rhetoric describes. We need to make this viable. #SASsix

- Reposted by The SAS CollectiveEvery one of these doctors needs a career and a future. We need more training numbers. We also need to support the careers of anyone who chooses or finds themselves without a training number. Both are part of the solution. #SASsix
- Today's #StateOfMed report shows a medical training system under severe strain. There aren't enough training jobs available for resident doctors. This means unprecedented competition for posts, with both UK and IMG medics left to wonder if their vocation is still worth it. Full press response 👇
- Reposted by The SAS CollectiveThe new GMC workforce report has launched. I will have a lot to say about it once I have devoured it a bit more. I'll start with a reminder. The national contracts for those outside of training, not consultants or GPs, ARE the SAS contracts. We are choosing not to use them at a rate of 3:1.
- We echo @medicalprotection.bsky.social's viewpoint on the new GMC workforce report. They say: "Medical Protection backs the SAS Collective’s calls to supporting these doctors by providing better access to training opportunities and career progression." Here is how: #SASsix
- Today’s workforce report released by the GMC highlights how locally employed doctors are a rapidly growing but often undervalued part of the UK medical workforce. www.medicalprotection.org/uk/articles/...
- Reposted by The SAS CollectiveSupporting leadership development for all SAS doctors is something that we feel passionately about. We know so many excellent and inspiring leaders who are SAS doctors. So, let's ensure that others have access those same opportunities.

- We are very grateful to @assocanaes.bsky.social and @assocsas.bsky.social for their ongoing support of SAS and locally-employed doctors, and for the #SASsix. As they say, the right contract for the work done, and support to develop your career, are essential measures to maintain the workforce.

- SAS doctors have existed almost as long as the NHS. There are lots of reasons why someone might choose or find themselves outside of a rotational training programme. We aren't all the same, and nor do our careers have to be. #SASsix #Medsky #SASsky #SASbyChoice
